I'm cool with marriage but why must someone give up half of their ets in a divorce?

It's called a prenuptial agreement . . . that way everything is spelled out prior to the marriage. If you only last 2 or 3 year the prenuptial may state you are entitled to none of the wealth or ets aculated prior to the marriage.
