Any recommendations for hotels to stay at in New York City?

I'm taking my fiance to New York City in mid august and I'm looking for a nice hotel to spend two nights during the week. I'm looking for something that is a balance of nice but reasonably priced. I'm considering the Hilton or Weston, and those are kind of at the top of my price range. Also any suggestions for ways to get good deals would be appreciated. Thanks.
