What makes Marijuana Purple?

I live in Northern California (the Bay Area) and there is this batch of Marijuana going around called "Gs". I smoked some and it taste like Gs and the Buds are a Dark Purple. My question is How does the grower make it Look Purple and Taste like Gs?
